D.A.N.S ™ is a project to support and disseminate Romanian choreographic artistic creation, which proposes new meeting contexts between artists and the public with the aim of encouraging the development of new ways of thinking, action and collective creation at Timișoara. The project supports and develops local artists and initiatives, creates connections between Dance and various Contemporary Arts (poetry, visual art, music) emphasizing the exploration of Public Space and Nature. It is equally an exercise of activation and cultural development that puts the Body and Soul at its centre, in search of the present moment.

The activities took place mainly in Timișoara between May 15 and November 17, 2022, and included:

  • The Chestnut Variations, four improvisation shows coordinated by Alexandra Gîrbea, in collaboration with local musicians, 1 visual artist and 3 guest choreographers
    • Once upon a tree – Alexandra G & Makunouchi Bento (Felix Petrescu)
    • In the beginning was freedom – Aleandra G & Christina Sakshatska (UK) & Dr Sinteză (Uțu Pascu & Cristian Văduva)
    • The ocean inside – Alexandra G & Timea Kovacs & Alexandra Balasoiu
    • How to tame your dragon – Alexandra G & Tiberiu Vasilescu (We are Creepz)
  • Pink Sky Session by RITM, a dance-music improvisation show produced within the span project,
    Concentric Projects proposes an experimental format of interaction between jazz music and contemporary dance. The improvisation show was made by 3 choreographers (Alexandra Gîrbea, Alexandra Bălășoiu, Timea Kovacs) and 2 local musicians – Petre Ionuțescu, Mircea Ardeleanu in connection with the themes and methodology developed within the RITM choreographic laboratory.
  • FREE DANCE, 2 outdoor sessions at Casa Artelor and 1 session at the end of the Singing Bodies’ Trilogy show

  • Free dance is an Area concept proposed within DANS TM by Alexandra Gîrbea (choreographer) in collaboration with visual artist Cristian Văduva (VJ and video projections), Denis Bolborea (musician and choreographer). Sessions begin with a guided warm-up that sets the tone and tone of the dance, followed by each participant expressing themselves freely and communicating through movement.
  • CORP.VERS,3 sesiuni de improvizație dans-poezie la Cărturești

    Corp#Vers proposed the construction of a space of dialogue and reflection between dance and poetry, with the opening of the results in an unconventional space, usually transited by a large number of people who are not particularly consumers of contemporary art/dance, by organizing three interdisciplinary improvisation events in Cărturești Bookstore. Adela Dragomir – a poet established in Timișoara opened the three main themes of her poems (relationship with divinity, love and childhood) in an interdisciplinary dialogue with choreographers Alexandra Bălășoiu, Cristina Lilienfeld and Cosmin Manolescu. The visual artist from Timișoara, Cristian Văduva supported corp.vers#1 with video projections and made the video documentation for corp.vers#3. In the last event, the musician Denis Bolborea joined the creative team to support the artistic content with live music.
  • D.A.N.S. shows ™ at the German State Theatre, 2 performances
  • Choreographic residencies for Lucia Kasiarova (Prague) in Timișoara and Alexandra Gîrbea in Bucharest
  • AREAL scholarships offered for 2 spectators and 1 journalist
  • RE.START™ – cultural management workshop, supported by Cosmin Manolescu

The activities took place at Casa Artelor, Cărturești Opera Bookstore, the Iosefin neighbourhood, the Bega river, the French Institute in Timișoara, the German State Theater in Timișoara, FABER and FITT.
