Movemental
This spring, we danced among the possibilities of responding to life, together with the patients and the medical staff at the Voila Psychiatric Hospital in Câmpina. Every Friday for 8 weeks we travelled to them, trying to move their bodies, minds and emotions in a creative, gentle and empathetic way.
The sessions were guided by Loredana Larionescu (dance therapist) and Alexandra Bălășoiu (choreographer), and the music was, most of the time, composed live by Paolo Profeti and Denis Bolborea, who adapted to the energy and requirements of the group, creating always a surprising setting at the intersection of jazz, tango, waltz, beatbox and popular music. When we were restricted by quarantine and isolation, we continued online with fantastic technical and emotional support from the hospital team.
We presented, in the open air, in the hospital yard, two shows adapted from the Indie Box repertoire:
- I am you – concert A-C Leonte and Denis
- [ship of fools] – performance work in progress
“Liberation, release, communication, support, community spirit, joy, good mood”. This is how the patients participating in the workshops felt about our proposals. The desire for continuation and goodbye was always present in their feedback.
We also want the end of this project to be just a point of view, a moment to share experiences and a chance to formulate new contexts and approaches.
Program | Geo Bogza House of Culture, Câmpina

MOVEMENTAL, project presentation, 30 min
[SHIP OF FOOLS]
Dance film, 20 minutes
Four dancers travel through a multitude of spaces, in an empathetic “boat”, which allows them to encounter complex inner worlds with patience and understanding, leaving aside expectations and stereotypes. They embrace the diversity of possibilities of being, finding in movement poetic and creative ways to encounter the unknown and make peace with the surrounding absurdity. Dance becomes a method of soul survival and diving into one’s own depths, a way of reconciliation with our chaotic nature.

On the same day, Alexandra Bălășoiu will preview an outdoor performance in various public spaces in Câmpina. Spring tides of a good girl (30 min) exposes different points of view on madness, the way in which the “mad” is seen socially, as well as the way in which he feels in relation to others. The “crazy” label can place you in various relationships with the “normal” world: a problem that needs to be solved, a source of creativity, a mirror of social dysfunctions, an obstacle to be avoided, an amalgam of incoherences. In her speech, Alexandra integrates both her personal memory and fragments of the memories she came across during this research.
Concept and interpretation: Alexandra Bălășoiu
