➁ REALITY CHECK (Denis Bolborea, 40’’)
Hi, I’m Denis! As you read this text, you are hearing my voice. Or is it your voice? Try screaming. Now whisper________________ How loud is the voice in your mind? Imaginează-ți cum ai putea să o întinzi în spațiu. The soundtrack is constantly present, but the way we listen is intermittent. Can we reorchestrate the speech of the city? Can we recycle the noise that surrounds us, giving it another dimension?
Sometimes the gaze does not reach beyond the eyelashes and the inner noise exceeds the volume of the city. Information continues to circulate, regardless of our carelessness. We accumulate, we propagate and we transform.
What type of wave are you?
Denis Bolborea BIO
He studied different styles of urban dance (hip-hop, popping, locking) and won many prizes over the years, both in Romania and in Europe. In 2009, he participated in “Dancez pentru tine”, later becoming part of the team. this experience brought him a large number of television collaborations (X-factor, Eurovision) and led him to improve his dance technique. In 2013, he graduated from the Bucharest National University of Theater and Cinematography, specializing in Choreographic Art. At the graduation gala, he won the Award for the best performer in the work “What’s left”, a production that won ALT – National Choreography Competition 2013. In the same competition, he presented his own production, Sound Alchemy, in which he explores the relationship between music, dance and emotion. As a performer, he combines contemporary dance with the experience of an urban dancer. He is interested in the relationship between voice and body because he is developing, in parallel, as a beatboxer/vocal soloist. He is interested in the relationship between voice and body because he is developing, in parallel, as a beatboxer/vocal soloist. He develops the independent project DENIS, is part of the a cappella vocal group Blue Noise and participates as a sound designer in various productions. In collaboration with the sound engineer Mara Maracinescu, in 2016 he launched the Ear to Bucharest project financed by ARCUB, within the Bucharest 2021_Visible City candidacy. Through interventions in the public space, performances and installations that use sounds recorded and broadcast live from the neighbourhoods, the two aim to reconnect the people of Bucharest with the city, using the sound environment. Since 2014, he has been part of the Tangaj Dance collective (tangajdance.com), where he integrates the two skills, collaborating as a performer in the productions “0001 | Factory of Dreams”, “0002 | Birdville”, “Counterbody” and as a sound designer in “0002 | Birdville” and “0003 | Aftertaste”. In 2017 he collaborates with Cristina Lilienfeld for the production of the show “Moving Fields”, and in 2018 he has a fundamental role in the two projects coordinated by Indie Box and co-financed by AFCN: he creates the performative solo “Reality Check”, integrated in the Singing Bodies’ Trilogy developed together with the choreographers Valentina de Piante and Alexandra Bălășoiu, being the sound designer of all three creations. Together with the acappella band Blue Noise, he participates in the process of creating and presenting the Portrait album, released in Bucharest, Sibiu, Ploiesti and Timisoara.
